WATER SAVINGS HELP STORAGES
Melbourne’s water storages are now 29.5% full (523,792 million litres), compared to 28.5% (or 504,916 million litres) at the same time last year. This represents close to 19 billion litres more water in storage.
Despite precious little rain over the week, consumption has remained comparatively low. Melbourne’s daily water consumption is 936 million litres per day compared with an average of 1,108 million litres per day in the 1990s. This helped limit the drop in total storage volume this week to 0.34%.
With the extension of Stage 3a water restrictions until at least 30 November 2008, continued water savings by households and business will give storages a better chance of recovering during the traditionally wetter months ahead.
Further details on water restrictions are available by visiting the Our Water Our Future website at Our Water Our Future or by contacting the government water retailers.
