CONSUMPTION LOW, STORAGES STEADY
Melbourne’s water storages have remained at 29.6% full (524,789 million litres) this week, adding 0.01% or 243 million litres. For the same time last year, water storages were 33.0% (584,687 million litres)
An average of 12.8mm has fallen over the major catchments since last Thursday, which is roughly half the long-term average for the same period. However, the continued wet weather is keeping the catchments damp, which in turn increases the chance of good runoff if more rain arrives.
Rain and cold weather over the metropolitan area again helped keep water use low. Melbourne’s average daily water consumption was 939 million litres per day compared with an average of 1,108 million litres per day in the 1990s.
Stage 3a restrictions are in place until at least 30 November 2008. Further details on water restrictions are available by visiting the Our Water Our Future website or by contacting the government water retailers.
