5 BILLION LITRES ADDED TO STORAGES
Melbourne’s water storages have edged up to 29.9% full (529,924 million litres), posting a net gain of 0.29% or 5 billion litres during the week. For the same time last year, storages were at 34.0% (602,172 million litres).
An average of 23.4mm rain fell over the catchments since last Thursday, bringing the total winter rainfall so far to 151 mm.
Late winter through to spring is normally the wettest time of year for our catchments. This makes ongoing water savings by households and businesses an important part of helping storages recover over the next few months, ahead of warmer and drier weather.
This week, Melbourne’s daily water consumption averaged at 952 million litres per day, compared with an average of 1,108 million litres per day in the 1990s.
Stage 3a restrictions are in place until at least 30 November 2008. Further details on water restrictions are available by visiting the Our Water Our Future website or by contacting the government water retailers.
