SURVEY WORKS NEAR YEA

From the Sugarloaf Pipeline Alliance

The Sugarloaf Pipeline Alliance wishes to advise that geotechnical surveys will take place from Monday 28 July next to Killingworth Reserve, near Yea.

These survey works will involve drilling and digging several test pits to help determine the design and construction of a pump station, to be built on this site. They are not construction works.

All relevant perimissions for the survey works have been obtained.

Most of the survey works are taking place on private property, and are authorised under Section 133 of the Water Act (1989). The landowner and occupant have been informed of the works.

The survey works form part of the detailed investigations that have taken place over several months along the proposed alignment of the pipeline. Construction of the pipeline can only begin once Federal and State Government authorities have outlined conditions for the project. These conditions are pending.

For reasons of occupational health and safety, a strict perimeter will be maintained around the works site. The Sugarloaf Pipeline Alliance respects the rights of the community to express its views in a lawfull manner, and has arranged for a section of public land next to the the works site to be set aside for this purpose.

The survey works near Killlingworth Reserve are expected to take about a month. The Sugarloaf Pipeline remains on schedule for completion by mid-2010.
