CONTROLLED GRASS BURNS NEAR WESTERN TREATMENT PLANT

Melbourne Water wishes to advise the local community that it will carry out controlled burns in native grasslands near the Western Treatment Plant during April and May, starting this week.

Smoke may be noticeable to nearby residents, depending on weather conditions.

The controlled burns are part of Melbourne Water's Conservation Management Plan, which helps native grasses and other plants to regenerate.

Burns will take place on Western Treatment Plant land between the Geelong Freeway and Port Phillip Bay, at:

  • Ryan's Swamp, Murtcaim Road, Cocoroc (Melway map 11 D12)
  • Lake Borrie Grasslands (Melway map 11 D13).

Melbourne Water has approval for this work from the CFA. Burns will be carried out in appropriate weather, in daylight hours, by our professionally trained fire crews.
