Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program – Winneke and Western Treatment Plant

What is the Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program?

This Australian Government program encourages large energy using businesses to improve their energy efficiency. Businesses are required to identify, evaluate and report publicly on cost effective energy saving opportunities.

Why are we participating?

We consume more than 0.5 petajoules (PJ) of energy per year. All corporations that consume more than 0.5 PJ a year must participate in the program.

What has Melbourne Water been doing?

During 2008, we conducted our first Energy Efficiency Opportunities assessment at one of our major sewerage treatment plants, the Western Treatment Plant. In 2009 we completed our second assessment at the Winneke Treatment Plant.

What are the next steps in the program?

We will carry out a similar assessment at the Eastern Treatment Plant in 2010.
